!!!Freudenleere, der

Freudenleere, Der, name of an Eastern middle German poet meaning
"deprived of joy" (possibly following the death of his patron); around
1280 wrote the farce "Der Wiener Meerfahrt", an early heurigen story
directed against the ambitious Viennese patricians. In the play, the
revellers ("die tumben Wienaere") experience their drunkenness as an
increasingly stormy sea voyage (old satirical motif).
