Friedlaender, Friedrich, Ritter* von Malheim, b. Uhliřske Janovice, Czech Republic (then Kohljanowitz), Jan. 14, 1825, 
d. Vienna, June 13, 1901, history painter and genre painter, studied 
under F. G.  Waldmueller and others. Travelled to Italy, 
Duesseldorf and Paris and constantly worked in Vienna from 1856. One 
of the most important founding members of the Wiener 
Kuenstlergenossenschaft, an association of artists in Vienna. At first 
preferred historical subjects, but later turned to sociocritical 
topics and genre painting (after 1866 especially invalids).
