!!!Friedrich, Erzherzog von Österreich, geb. 1821

b. Vienna, May 14, 1821, 
d. Venice (Italy), Oct. 6, 1847, 3rd son of Archduke  Karl, naval 
commander. At the age of 14 joined the imperial navy and distinguished 
himself by personal bravery in the Syrian War in 1840/41. Appointed 
vice-admiral and supreme commander of the navy in 1844. Laid the 
foundations for numerous reforms and a reorganization of the Austrian 
navy, the structure of which was still based on the Venetian example 
at that time.
