b. Salzburg, Oct. 6, 1943, studied law, politician (until 1993: The 
Freedom Party, FPOe; later: Liberal Forum, LIF), 1977-1983 and 
1986-1996 member of the Nationalrat, 1996-1999 member of the European 
Parliament; 1983-1986 Federal Minister of Defence, 1985-1987 party 
chairman of the FPOe in the Federal Province of Salzburg, 1986-1990 
chairman of the FPOe parliamentary group, founding member and chairman 
of the parliamentary group of the Liberal Forum ( Liberales Forum) 
from 1993-1996 and later manager of the parliamentary group.
