Established the pathological anatomy of the eye as a discipline; 1881-1885 Professor at Liège University; 1885-1915 head of the 2nd Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Vienna. Founded the medical weekly "Wiener klinische Wochenschrift" with H. v. Bamberger in 1887.
