Guertel, Vienna, broad, tree-lined avenue that generally follows the 
course of the former  Linienwall; it starts in the north-western part 
of the 9%%sup th/%  district, runs in a concentric line around the old 
districts, with the exception of Leopoldstadt (2%%sup nd/%  district) 
and is 1.5-2 km away from the Ringstrasse boulevard; it clearly 
separates the "inner" (districts 3 - 9) and the "outer" districts (10 
-19). The western section is divided lengthwise by the tracks and 
stops of the former Stadtbahn transit line ("Guertellinie", now 
U 6 underground and elevated line), the eastern end (between 
3%%sup rd/%  and 11%%sup th/%  districts) has not been developed 
commercially.
