!!!Gagern, Max Ludwig Freiherr von

b. Weilburg (Germany), March 26, 1810, 
d. Vienna, Oct. 17, 1889, civil servant; grandfather of Baron 
Friedrich von  Gagern. 1840 civil servant in Nassau, 1855 Austrian 
civil servant. Worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs until 1871. 
Highly esteemed for his efforts in establishing a commercial policy 
and in bringing about the first expedition to East Asia and the  World 
Exhibition in Vienna in 1873. Then became a member of the Upper 
Chamber of the Reichsrat.
