d. Moedling (Lower Austria), Aug. 12, 1879, cartographer, geodesist, 
colonel. Conducted the first base measurement near Wiener Neustadt in 
1857. In 1876 president of the Austrian Commission for Arc 
Measurement. 1879 Commander of the  Institute of Military Geography; 
also known in the field of mountaineering (first ascents in the 
Oetztal Alps).
