!!!Ganztagsschule

All-day School: In Austria, school was usually held both in the
morning and afternoon until well into the late 19th century; classes
limited to the morning were first introduced in rural primary schools
(rural children had to cover long distances to and from school, and
were often required to help in the house or the fields) and had become
standard at most schools by the 20%%sup th/% century. As more and
more mothers are working outside the home, demand for all-day schools
has been increasing in recent years. From 1974/75 trials were carried
out with all-day classes and day-care schools (no afternoon classes
but supervised learning and leisure periods) and both forms were
introduced by law in 1993.
