d. Vienna, Oct. 28, 1768 historian, school reformer. In 1758 history 
professor at the University of Vienna, appointed supervisor of the 
Austrian school form equivalent to grammar schools ("Gymnasien"); his 
reorganisation of the curriculum and teaching methods ("Instructio", 
1764) represented the first compulsory state regulations regarding 
secondary education
