b. Salzburg, May 14, 1954, author and literary critic. Writes 
analytical essays about the arts and literature of Central and Eastern 
Europe, publisher of forgotten authors. Gauss has been editor-in-chief 
of the magazine "Literatur und Kritik" since 1991. Awarded the 
Austrian State Prize for Cultural Journalism in 1994.
