b. St. Pantaleon (Upper Austria), Jan. 15, 1859, 
d. Meran/Merano (South Tyrol), Nov. 22, 1920, general. Organised a 
spectacular river crossing of the Danube in Bulgaria (1916) during 
World War I using a new type of bridge construction which was later 
used all over the world.
