Mountains: large portions of Austria´s territory are covered 
with mountains, whose permanently settled regions account for only 
38.8 % of the Austrian territory. The  Alps are the most 
important mountains representing the characteristic landscape features 
of the western provinces Vorarlberg, Tirol and Salzburg, as well as of 
Upper and Lower Austria, Carinthia and Styria.
