b. Salzburg, Aug. 6, 1926, social scientist. Studied agriculture, 
sociology and psychology in Vienna, from 1957-1962 editor of the 
newspaper "Arbeiterzeitung", since 1967 one of the managers of the 
Institute for Empirical Social Research (Institut fuer empirische 
Sozialforschung IFES). Special focus on standards of living, models of 
social systems, policy research and market research methods. Since the 
1980s scientific advisor to the Austrian government, trade unions and 
companies.
