Generalstab (called "Generalquartiermeisterstab" until the 2%%sup nd/% 
 half of the 19%%sup th/%  century), founded under Prince 
Eugène along with the Imperial War Council; forerunner of 
generals and aides-de-camp. From 1901 there was a joint general staff 
for the K. u. K. army, the Austrian Landwehr and the Hungarian Honved.
