Georg, Saint, feast day April 23, 
d. about 305, martyr. According to legend an officer from Cappadocia. 
One of the 14 auxiliary saints; patron saint of farmers, blacksmiths, 
soldiers, boy scouts, live stock (horses) etc. Numerous place-names 
testify to his wide-spread patronage in Austria. Customs:  Georgi.
