Gersthof, independent municipality until 1891, situated on the slope 
of the Vienna Woods foothills (Schafberg hill), since then part of the 
18%%sup th/%  district of Vienna; first documented mention 1444; 
formerly a small rural settlement; now contains old suburban houses 
and villas; Semmelweis gynaecological hospital.
