Gielen, Michael, b. Dresden (Germany), July 20, 1927, conductor.
Studied in Buenos Aires and Vienna, from 1951-1960 conductor at the
Vienna State Opera, then in Stockholm, London and at the Netherlands
opera, from 1977-1987 musical director at the Frankfurt opera,
professor at University Mozarteum, Salzburg from 1987 to 1995. Special
interest in promoting contemporary opera.
