Gleissner, Heinrich, b. Linz (Upper Austria), Jan. 26, 1893, 
d. Linz, Jan. 18, 1984, studied law, politician (Austrian People's 
Party). In 1930 director of the Upper Austrian Chamber of Agriculture, 
1933/34 Staatssekretaer in the Federal Ministry for Agriculture and 
Forestry, from 1934-1938 and from 1945-1971 Landeshauptmann of Upper 
Austria; from 1939-1940 prisoner in Dachau and Buchenwald 
concentration camps, in 1951 presidential candidate of the Austrian 
People's Party. Guided Upper Austria through post-war turmoil and 
occupation (settlement between American and Soviet occupying troops), 
contributed to the political, economic and cultural reconstruction of 
Upper Austria and supported the structural change of Upper Austria 
from an agrarian to an industrial economy .
