b. Stra near Venice (Italy), Aug. 6, 1816, 
d. Vienna, May 20, 1887, officer and politician; son of Count 
Peter  Goëss, cousin of Count Zeno Vinzenz  Goëss and Count 
Leopold  Goëss. 1861-76 Governor of Carinthia; from 1861 member 
of the ''Herrenhaus''; advocated the adoption of an Austrian 
constitution. Awarded the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1878.
