Golf: The first British-style golf-club in Austria was opened in 
Vienna in 1901 (Vienna Krieau). Until the 1980s, golf was considered a 
rather exclusive sport - an image that has only changed quite 
recently. In 1993, 93 golf clubs (total membership: 24,243) were 
registered with the Austrian Golf Association.
