!!!Gottscheer

Gottscheer, travelling merchant, originally from Krainska 
((Kočerje, Slovenia) linguistic enclave; during the 14%%sup th/%  
century populated by Count Ortenburg with German-speaking Austrian 
settlers. In the Austro-Hungarian empire these travelling merchants 
became somewhat of an institution, selling fruit from the 
Mediterranean coast and fancy goods (gloves, lace etc.). In Vienna 
they sold their goods in popular inns in the Prater recreation area.
