!!!Graf, Adelstitel

Count, in the Frankish kingdom, the official of a royal domain with 
extensive powers, from the late Middle Ages retainer but not bondsman 
of a local ruler. Originally a hereditary title, it could also be 
awarded from the 15%%sup th/%  century onwards; counts were peers. The 
title, like all other titles of nobility, was abolished in Austria in 
1919.
