Greifenburg, Carinthia, market town in the district of Spittal an der 
Drau, alt. 644 m, pop. 1,826, area 76.28 km%%sup 2/%, summer 
holiday resort (54,840 overnight stays) and centre of the Upper Drau 
Valley, at the foot of the Kreuzeckgruppe mountains. - Wood-processing 
and construction industries, concrete works, cultivation of sweet 
chestnuts in the Kerschbaum cadastral district. - First documented in 
1230; Late Gothic parish church, modified in 1521 and 1697; Late 
Gothic-Baroque cemetery church; castle (first documented in 1166, 
Gothic castle enlarged in the 17%%sup th/%  century); River Drau 
statue (1869) on the Marktplatz square.
