Greuter, Josef, b. Tarrenz (Tyrol), Oct. 1, 1817,
d. Innsbruck (Tyrol), June 21, 1888, priest, Capuchin friar,
secondary school teacher and politician. Represented the interests of
the Catholic church in the Landtag and the Reichsrat, strong opponent
of the Imperial Decree on Protestantism of 1861 and liberal school
legislation (from 1868). It was mainly due to his resistance that
school legislation in Tyrol was not passed until 1892.
