Grossmann, Ferdinand, b. Tulln (Lower Austria), July 4, 1887, 
d. Vienna, Dec. 5, 1970, famous vocal instructor and orchestra 
director, composer, father of Agnes  Grossmann. Professor at the 
Vienna Academy of the Performing Arts; founded the Vienna People's 
Conservatory in 1923, then head of the Vienna Singing Academy, in 1930 
choral director of the Vienna State Opera, from 1939-1945 and from 
1956 head of the Vienna Boys' Choir; founded the Academy chamber choir 
in 1946.
