!!!Großtrappe Great bustard, turkey-sized bird with habitat in open arable land and steppes; weight 16 kg, the male is the heaviest bird in Europe. Around 1920, with the introduction of rape cultivation, the Great Bustard established itself in the Seewinkel area (Lake Neusiedl) and, although limited in number, can still be found today. Former populations, e.g. in the Marchfeld plain, have disappeared. The cock´s courtship display is impressive: by lifting the tail feathers, spreading and twisting its wings and inflating the large throat pouches it resembles a white puff of feathers. %%language [Back to the Austrian Version|AEIOU/Großtrappe|class='wikipage austrian'] %% [{FreezeArticle author='AEIOU' template='Lexikon_1995_englisch'}] [{ALLOW view All}][{ALLOW comment All}][{ALLOW edit FreezeAdmin}]
