Grossweikersdorf, Lower Austria, market town in the district of Tulln, 
alt. 211 m, pop. 2,653, area 43.33 km%%sup 2/%, old 
wine-growing town in the Schmidatal valley in the Weinviertel region. 
- Sports hall and sports centre; flour mill, commercial enterprises, 
some wine-growing. - First documented in 1221; parish church (rebuilt 
1733-1740 according to plans by J. E. Fischer von Erlach) with 
Late Gothic high altar (1740) and altarpieces by M. Altomonte (1734) 
and M. J. Schmidt (1749); Baroque houses on the Marktplatz 
square; column dedicated to the Virgin Mary (1720); pillory. I.-Pleyel 
museum in Ruppersthal.
