Gruber, Franz Xaver, b. Vienna, Sept. 29, 1801, 
d. Vienna, April 12, 1862, flower and genre painter, taught at 
the manufacturing school of the Vienna Academy of Fine Arts from 1835, 
1839-1859 created for Prince Metternich a collection of water colours 
of all species of camellia and for Emperor Ferdinand I a series 
of outstanding water colours of orchids and palm trees based on the 
plants in the greenhouses of Schoenbrunn palace.
