b. Vienna, July 20, 1837, 
d. Vienna, Nov. 1, 1918, architect and military officer; son of Ignaz 
G. (1803-1872), the first otologist in Austria, and brother of Max von 
 Gruber. From 1867 teacher at the Genie-Akademie, constructed mainly 
military buildings. 1893-1895 chairman of the board of the Austrian 
Association of Engineers and Architects. Played a major role in 
improving sanitation and hygiene.
