Hoechst, Vorarlberg, municipality in the district of Bregenz, alt. 
403 m, pop. 6,423, area 20.16 km%%sup 2/%, industrial town 
situated on the Rhine southwest of Bregenz, close to Lake Constance; 
parts of the landscape north of Hoechst are a nature conservation 
area. - Rheinau stadium, local health and social insurance branch 
office, customs office, customs authority department. 3,444 employed 
persons 1991, of which about 79 % work in the manufacturing 
sector: metal-working industry (manufacture of furniture fittings), 
embroidery, plastics factory, summer tourism. - First documented 
mention 808 as "Hostadio"; became part of Austria together with the 
domain of Feldkirch in 1390; parish church (1908-1910) with 
neo-Baroque interior.
