b. Imst (Tyrol), Dec. 13, 1840, 
d. Graz (Styria), July 1, 1895, landscape painter, officer. Studied at 
the Vienna Academy under E.  Peithner von Lichtenfels and A. 
Feuerbach, 1875-1883 drawing teacher and fencing master at the 
military school in St. Poelten, 1883 retired from active military 
service. Was associated with the circle around E. J.  Schindler. As a 
follower of Plein Air painting spent some time in France, returned in 
1890. Considered the most resolute Austrian Impressionist (see also:  
Impressionism).
