Haag, Lower Austria, town in the district of Amstetten, alt. 
346 m, pop. 5,146, area 54.78 km%%sup 2/%, situated in western 
Lower Austria close to its border with Upper Austria - District court, 
local Chamber of Farmers, branch offices of the District Commission 
and the Amstetten Employment Services, youth welfare office, festival 
hall, Caritas and Lebenshilfe welfare organisations, open-air museum 
(agricultural buildings with furniture and equipment) and museum of 
the Mostviertel region (since 1969, household and agricultural 
equipment); zoological garden (33 hectares, in the grounds of Salaberg 
Castle); schools: Hoehere Bundeslehranstalt fuer wirtschaftliche 
Berufe (federal commercial college), landwirtschaftliche Fachschule 
(college of agriculture), adult education centre; sale of buses, 
large-scale paint shop, production of children´s wear, heat 
pumps, heating elements, sports goods and sports equipment. - First 
documented mention 1061/62, granted town status in 1933; late-Gothic 
parish church, imposing formerly fortified staggered church from the 
15%%sup th/%  century with reticulated rib vaulting, choir (1433) and 
tracery windows (1892/93 re-Gothicised); Schloss Salaberg Renaissance 
castle, extensive buildings from the 16%%sup th/%  century with 
extensions dating from 1637 and 1677, high-Baroque gardens with 
sculptures and charming bathing grotto, castle chapel consecrated in 
1698.
