Habeler, Peter, b. Mayrhofen (Tyrol), July 22, 1942, mountaineer. 
1969 founded with Reinhold Messner a new form of alpinism with little 
technical support and light equipment. 1978 ascended with Messner 
Mount Everest without breathing apparatus and later another 4 
mountains over eight thousand metres high (Nanga Parbat, Cho Oyu, 
Kanchenjunnga, Hidden Peak). is also a renowned educational theorist 
on skiing and alpinism (1973 founded the Alpinschule Zillertal).
