d. Mainz (Germany), June 23, 1989; psychiatrist and 
psychoanalyst; 1938 emigrated to Switzerland, 1940 to the USA; 
professor in Los Angeles; founder (1968) and president of the Sigmund 
Freud Society. Important works on the phenomenon of violence in the 
mass society.
