The Hafner mountains are situated between the Maltatal, upper Liesertal and upper Murtal valleys. The Koelnbreinspeicher reservoir (in full use since 1978, catchment area 51.3 km%%sup 2/%, working capacity 200 million m%%sup 3/%, 200 m high arched dam) and the smaller Galgenbichl reservoir to its south (working capacity 4.4 million m%%sup 3/%) are accessible via the Malta-Hochalm toll road.
