Hakel, Hermann, b. Vienna, Aug.12, 1911, 
d. Vienna, Dec. 24, 1987, poet and narrative writer. 1940-1944 
interned in Italian concentration camps, 1945 emigrated to Palestine, 
1948 returned to Vienna. founded a newspaper for poetry, art and 
criticism, "Lynkeus" (1948-1951 and 1979-1986), which is today 
published again by the Hermann Hakel Society (established in 1988). 
his works focus on the effects of war and exile and on his position as 
a Jewish author in Vienna. H. also translated from Yiddish into 
German.
