Halban, Josef, b. Vienna, Oct. 10, 1870, 
d. Vienna, April 23, 1937, gynaecologist; married to the singer 
Selma  Kurz. From 1910 head of the Department of Gynaecology at the 
Vienna General Hospital; elevated to the nobility in 1917. "Halban's 
sign of pregnancy" is named after him. Achievements in the field of 
research on the inner secretion of the ovaries.
