!!!Hallstätter See

Hallstatt, Lake, Upper Austria, alt. 508 m, 5.9 km long and 
2.3 km wide, 125 m deep, water of medium quality. Lake 
Hallstatt is an Alpine lake situated at the northern foot of the 
Dachstein massif in the Salzkammergut region of Upper Austria. Above 
Lake Hallstatt the River Traun, which flows through the lake, is 
called River Koppentraun. The narrow shores of Lake Hallstatt are 
among the oldest settlement areas in Austria ( Hallstatt Culture). 
Today the lake is one of the most important tourist regions of the 
province of Upper Austria. Villages on the shore of Lake Hallstatt: 
Hallstatt (alt. 532 m), Obertraun (alt. 513 m) and Steeg 
(alt. 513 m).
