!!!Hanf, Cannabis sativa

Hemp (Cannabis sativa), plant grown for its fibre and its oil. At the 
beginning of the 20%%sup th/%  century Austria-Hungary took third 
place (1913: 23,000 ha) among the hemp-growing countries. After 
World War II 1,000 hectares were cultivated. The Narcotic Drugs 
Act of 1951 outlawed the growing of hemp. This prohibition does not 
apply to scientific projects with special authorization and to 12 
varieties containing low levels of narcotics; they may be grown in 
accordance with EU regulations.
