b. Kraków (Poland), Feb. 27, 1919, 
d. Vienna, March 3, 1994, composer. Came to Vienna via Tel Aviv and 
Paris, from 1957 editor in the Universal Edition publishing house for 
contemporary music, 1973-1989 professor of composition at the 
Musikhochschule (now University of Music and Performing Arts) in 
Vienna, 1976-1986 head of its department of electroacoustics and 
experimental music. Played a major role in the development of graphic 
notation. Large number of students, some prominent. Awarded the Grand 
Austrian State Prize in 1981.
