!!!Hauer, Leopold

b. Vienna, July 15, 1896, 
d. Lengenfeld (Lower Austria), Nov. 2, 1984, painter. Son of Franz  
Hauer, studied at the Vienna Academy under J. Jungwirth and K.  
Sterrer; became known for his landscapes and flower paintings. The use 
of rich colours is characteristic of his work. From 1934 also worked 
in the film industry as an advisor, director and programme planner in 
cinemas. In 1960 he founded together with his daughter Christa  
Hauer-Fruhmann and Johann  Fruhmann the "Galerie im Griechenbeisl", 
which remained one of the leading Austrian art galleries until 1971. 
Awarded the Austrian Decoration of Honour for Science and Arts in 
1961.
