!!!Hauptausschuss des Nationalrats

Main Committee of the Nationalrat, organ of the Nationalrat, takes
part in the implementation of the federal system of government. The
Main Committee is chiefly responsible for fixing postal rates, prices
of commodities produced by federal monopolies, wages of federal
employees in federal enterprises; it approves certain resolutions of
the joint EEA committee changing or amending laws and proposes
candidates for the election of the president and vice-president of the
Court of Audit and the members of the Ombudsman's Office; it
cooperates in the passing of resolutions on Referendums; in agreement
with the federal government as well as in the discussion of requests
from international organisations to dispatch units abroad, assessment
of renunciations according to the Habsburg Law, enactment of certain
regulations (also in agreement with the Federal ministers). The Main
Committee is elected by the Nationalrat on the basis of proportional
election and stays in office until the new Main Committee is elected
(except if the Nationalrat is dissolved by the Federal President). On
the principles of proportional election the Main Committee elects its
permanent sub-committee, which takes over the function of implementing
the federal system from the Main Committee should the Nationalrat be
dissolved by the Federal President; it is also involved in issuing
emergency decrees by the Federal President. The permanent
sub-committee can be convened at any time.
