b. Vienna, July 12, 1886, 
d. Limoges (France), Feb. 1, 1971, significant Dadaist artist and 
photographer. In 1900 moved to Berlin, and studied painting and 
sculpture, from 1905 had contact with J. Bader who later became a 
Dadaist. Influenced by Futurist paintings; he contributed to 
expressionist magazines (incl. "Der Sturm", "Die Aktion"). Contact 
with the Dada-Group in Zurich, 1919/20 ed. of the magazine "Der Dada" 
in Berlin. Experimented with photography, friendship with K. 
Schwitters. From 1933 lived in France and Spain.
