Sports Activities in the Austrian Armed Forces, section "physical 
education and sports" (including physical education, competitive 
sports, promotion of sports) section of the Federal Ministry of 
Defence; physical education and competitive sports in the army are 
covered by the Heeressport- und Nahkampfschule (HSNS, military sports 
and close combat school), an important factor in the training of top 
sportsmen in Austria. The Oesterreichischer Heeressportverband (OeHSV, 
Austrian military sports association), founded 1967 and comprising 83 
military sports clubs and 28,839 members (1993), is responsible for 
the promotion of sports.
