Home Workers: According to section 2 subsection 1 of the 
Home Working Act 1961 (Federal Law Gazette 1961/105, 
Heimarbeitsgesetz) home workers are persons manufacturing, processing 
or packaging goods in their own home or at any other place of work 
chosen by themselves, by order and for the account of their employers 
and without carrying on a trade. The law also covers intermediaries, 
i.e. persons carrying on a trade and working for their employer under 
the same conditions as home workers. They are held equal to home 
workers unless they employ more than 2 workers they are not related 
to. Because their status is generally similar to that of regular 
employees, the Home Working Act provides for standardised regulations 
for the protection of employees. Both home workers and intermediaries 
are entitled to pay for work done on a holiday, paid vacation, time 
off work for the care of a sick relative and continued remuneration in 
case of sickness, etc. Termination of employment is subject to certain 
periods of notice. Home workers are also entitled to compensation for 
dismissal in accordance with the employees' act.
