!!!Heimkehrer

Prisoners of War, Returning: In 1945 a large number of German
Wehrmacht soldiers were taken prisoners of war by American, English,
French, Yugoslav and, above all, by Russian troops. In the summer of
1945, and particularly in 1946, they started to return to their
countries. Most of the returnees were allowed to return to Austria in
1948 and 1950, the last of them were not released from Russian POW
camps until 1955, after the Austrian State Treaty had been signed.
They usually arrived at Wiener Neustadt railway station (60 transports
from the USSR until 1953), where the last official transport of
prisoners arrived on July 25, 1955.
