b. St. Lorenzen im Pustertal/Val Pusteria (South Tyrol), Sept. 7, 1812,
d. Bruneck/Brunico (South Tyrol), Feb. 15, 1880, painter, leading
personality in the Nazarene ecclesiastical art movement in the Tyrol.
Studied in Munich and 1838-1840 assistant of P. Cornelius during the
painting of the frescoes in Ludwigskirche church in Munich. 1843
together with E. v. Steinle designed the chancel frescoes for Cologne
Cathederal. 1844 in Rome; because of bad health later turned to panel
painting and produced many altar-pieces (including for Silz, Mils,
Weissenbach, Innsbruck, Brunico, Absam, Hall and Salzburg).
