!!!Hemmaberg

Hemmaberg Mountain, Carinthia, 842 m, the holy mountain of the 
Jauntal valley, former Celtic-Roman mountain settlement of Juenna, 
west of Globasnitz. Most important excavation site of early 
Christianity in Austria. In the fortification from the late Antiquity 
5 churches and an octagonal baptistery from the 5%%sup th/%  and 
6%%sup th/%  centuries A.D. have been excavated. Preserved parts of 
the tessellated floors exhibited in the museum of Globasnitz. The 
unique early-Christian church complex on the Hemmaberg may have served 
as a place of pilgrimage. Northwest of the antique buildings, St. 
Hemma late-Gothic pilgrimage church (first documented mention 
1498-1519), Baroque interior, Baroque St. Rosalia chapel (late 
17%%sup th/%  century). St. Rosalia grotto below the church. 
Pilgrimage: June 27 (St. Hemma Day).
