d. Vienna, July 17, 1890, educationalist. 1850-1854 inspector of 
primary schools in Styria, 1863-1867 member of the Council of 
Education. Rendered outstanding services for the improvement of 
teaching materials (inventor of type case, 1845; "Deutsches Lesebuch" 
- German textbook, 1859) and of the didactics of elementary teaching.
